Recycle Craft: Sea Shell Photo Frame

Difficulty: Easy

Age: 5 and up (with the assistance from adults for younger kids)

Description:

After a stroll along the beach, you have collected some sea shells and other recycle items. You try to think of how you can make good use of these collected items? How about make a photo frame out of it along with some other recycle materials?

What you'll need:

1. Your favourite photo (size 4R)
2. Some card board from old boxes
(~ 2pcs of 8"x 10")
3. UHU Glue
4. A rope from old paper bag handle
5. Scissors
6. Hole puncher
7. Sea shells and other collected items
8. Cellophone tape

How to make it:

1. Cut the recycle box to get 2 pieces of 8" x 10" board, one to be used as the back plane, and another to be used as the border of the frame.

2. Put the piece of card board for back plane aside.

3. For the piece that is going to be use as the frame border, tear the first layer of the brown paper from the board so that it becomes corrogated board as in the photo. Then cut it into 4 stripes of size 2"x10" each.

4. Use the stripes of board to form a square as the border of the frame around the 4R photo in the plastic bag that comes with the photo. Secure the frame with glue. Then, use cellophone tape to stick the photo on the frame from the back.
5. Turn over the frame and the photo will look as in the photo on the right.

6. Firm up the frame by adding the board for the back plane on top. Glue on the back plane.

7. Turn over the photo frame to its front, and now it is the fun part for the kids. Decorate and stick on all the collected sea shells and other items collected from the beach.

8. Lastly, punch 2 holes on the top part of the frame and tied the rope over to form the hanger.

9.Done and Happy Trying!

Tips:
1. To make the photo frame more colourful, replace the recycle card board with coloured corrogated board bought from craft store or bookshop, such as Popular.
2. To add more colour to the photo frame, add other coloured decorated items such as coloured sequeen, beads, or some shapes cut out from colourful flyers.
3. To allow photo changing, do not seal tight the photo, keep one side of the frame accessible by not stick all sides of the border of the frame to the back plane.
