Paper Craft: Chinese New Year DIY Home Deco

Chinese New Year is just around the corner. Are you trying to bring up the spirit of the Chinese New Year at home but have no ideas how to do it? Have you thought of repainting the wall of your living hall but do not know how to handle that?

Worry no more, we have some easy and useful tips to share with you here. You can bring the joy of Chinese New Year into your home with these little tricks in no time.

What you'll need:
1. Any number of Ang Pow packets or red packets (new or recycle)
2. Scissors
3. Double-sided tape or blue tack
4. Marker Pen (optional)

How to make it:

1. To create the fan-like flowers, get one Ang Pow packet, fold it up and down in a zig-zag manner as in the below.

2. Press all creases together and fold the whole Ang Pow into half. Repeat Step 1 and 2 as many times as you wish to create flowers with one, two or three Ang Pow packets. You may do as many as you wish.

3. To create the "福“ deco, just cut it from any Ang Pow packet that has the word printed. Otherwise, you can write the words on any Ang Pow packet and cut it out.

4. To create the butterflies, draw a template of half of the butterfly on the Ang Pow packet, cut along the lines. When you have cut it out, open it and fold the sides of the body of the butterfly. You may draw different shapes of butterflies on different colour of Ang Pow packets. Create as many as you wish.

5. Finally, use the double-sided tape or the blue tack to stick these DIY deco on the wall. You may create as many as you like and arrange in any way you like.

6. How cool is that for you to have these 3D DIY home deco that brings you into the joyous mood of the Chinese New Year. These will surely bring lots of prosperity, happiness and abundance to you!

Chinese New Year Mandarin Orange Lantern

Description:

Lets celebrate this Chinese New Year with this Mandarin Orange Lantern.

What you'll need:

1. Orange color paper 80gm A4 x 1

2. Scissor

3. Paper cup (or other circle item )

4. Pencil

5. Gold color string

6. Gold color sequin
7. White glue
8. Buttons
9. Puncher
10. 20cm Straw

Step 1 - Fold the orange paper as shown below:

Step 2 - Use Pencil and Paper cup to trace out a circle, use Scissor to cut out the circles.

Step 3 - Now you will get 8 circles from the orange paper.

Step 4 - Fold the paper into half as shown.

Step 5 - Glue in the middle of the crease as shown below:

Step 6 - You will get the shape as shown in the following like a lantern.

Step 7 - Use Gold color sequin to add some decoration.

Step 8 - Use Scissor to cut the straw into strips as shown.

Step 9 - Use Gold color string to tie through the button as shown.

Step 10 - Put the string through the middle of the orange lantern and it is DONE!

Ho..ho..ho...Merry Christmas! Let's make this Christmas full of creative and fun! You can proudly show off your DIY handmade badge in this coming Christmas!

What you'll need:

1) Red, green, white color felt.

2) Needle, string

3) Scissor

4) Cotton

5) Safety pin

6) White cloth

7) Acrylic

Step 1: Cut the felt in the shape shown in the picture.

Step 2: Draw the clip art that you like on a piece of white cloth and cut out the shape.

Step 3: Sew the safety pin on a piece of red color felt ; sew the clip art that you draw on the white cloth on another piece of red color felt.

* you can choose the different color of string to sew.

Step 4: Use the acrylic to paint the snowman.

Step 5: Now put both red color felt together and put in the cotton and start to sew.

Step 6: Done the red color felt sewing. It look like as shown in picture.

Step 7: Now put on the white color felt on the top and sew it.

* You can add on the decoration (E.g: Leaf).

Now you can pin this badge on your bag or as accessories for outing on Xmas day!

Snow Man Handphone Bag

Description:
Merry Merry X'mas!!!! In2Art are so excited to celebrate it~~ Lets do a hand phone bag and carry it for the whole December!

What you'll need:
1) 4 pieces of felt (optional to choose own favorites) with
    size: 13cm x 7cm.
2) 2 pieces of round shape felt in white color with diameter
    4.5cm and 3.5cm respectively.
3) 1 piece of red color felt in hat shape as shown at picture
    beside. (the based must be at least in 3cm)

4) 1 piece of white color felt with 5cmx 2.5cm and another
piece of felt in blue color with the same size.
5) cotton
6) string in different color & needle.

1) Lets start with the stitch process for the first step. Stitch the eyes,
    mouth and button with different colors of string.
   (may use pencil to draw or mark at the place to sew to prevent
    misplace)

2. Sew the body part to the 13cm x 7cm felt(part A).
Remember to add in some cotton before finish sewing.

3. Repeat step no. 2 for the head.

4. Move on to the hat.
This may no need add cotton.
Then stitch the hand by brown color string.

5. Join this piece with another piece of part A.Lets mark this as Part
B.

6. Repeat step 5 for another 2pieces of part A and lets call
this part C.

7. Is time to join the white and the blue together and
become part D.

8. Join Part C and Part D together.

9. Lastly sew the button on part B and cut a hole at part D then it is
DONE!!

Clay Craft: Tomato Brooch

Description:
Are you thinking of how to create some small ornaments or accessories for the little kids? How about a hand-made tomato brooch?

What you'll need:
1. Red colour iClay
2. Yellow colour iClay
3. Blue colour iClay
4. White colour iClay
5. 2 black 1mm beads
6. Strong adhesive/glue
7. Brooch Pin
8. Toothpick

How to make it:
1. First of all, prepare the required colour clay. To get green clay, mix a tiny bit of blue clay with sufficient portion of yellow clay, knead until the colour mix well, add more yellow or blue until you get a satisfactory green.

2. Next, prepare the orange clay by repeating the above steps using a tiny bit of red with yellow clay.

3. Roll the red clay into a ball, press it flat. This is the tomato face.

4. Separate the green clay into 3 parts, roll 2 parts into water drop shape and press flat. Roll the last part into a small sausage shape. Using toothpick, make the pattern of leaves on the water drop shaped clay.

5. Roll 2 small ball using white clay, press it flat. These are the eyes.

6. Add the 2 black beads into the 2 white clay to form the eyes.

7. Roll the orange clay into a small ball, press it flat to form the mouth.

8. Assemble the tomato face with reference to the photo.

9. Use toothpick to punch a hole on the orange mouth.

10. Finally, glue the brooch pin at the back. Leave it to air dry and it's done!

Tips:
1. Add the beads in Step 6 at equal position to create a normal face, or add it up on one side and down on another like mine to create a funny face.

2 Apply some glue sparingly if the clay do not stick well.

3. To avoid the clay from drying too fast, work on Step 2 just before you work on Step 7. The smaller the clay, the faster it dries up.

Tree Decor Greeting Card

Description:

Hang all your wishes on the tree. Let the person you love cherished with lots of wishes always.

What you'll need:

1. Drawing paper 135gm 20cm x 8 cm

2. Hole puncher

3. 30 cm 4. Pencil
5. Water Colour

6. Special Scissors
7. Pen

Step 1 : Paint the drawing paper with water.

Step 2 : Then paint the selected water colour on top of the wet drawing paper. You may mix the colour to create a mixture of colour tone.

Step 3 : Use special craft scissors to cut the border of the paper.

Step 4 : Fold the paper into half.

Step 5 : Use the hole puncher to punch a hole, and tie the hole with a pipe cleaner .

Step 6 : Use pen to write down your wish. You can hang these hand made messages all around the tree.

Halloween Mask

Description:
Boo...! It is Halloween again and it's time for trick, treats and lot of fun. This Halloween craft will make your kids have a frightfully fun time! Let's do it and wear it in the horror Halloween party.....

What you'll need:
-Color paper foam
-Glue
-scissor
-marker pen
-rubber band
-punch holder

How to make it:

Step 1: Choose any 2 color paper foam that you like. Cut 15cm (W) x 8cm (H) orange color paper foam and 15cm (W) x 3cm (H) blue color paper foam. Cut the orange color paper foam in the shape which shown in the picture.

Step 2: Draw two eye in the center and cut it.

Step 3: Cut the red color paper foam for the ear. Take the blue color paper foam which you cut previously and cut it as shown in the picture.

Step 4: Now, take out all the cutted paper foam and glue it. Glue the blue color paper foam on the top of orange color paper foam. Glue the red color paper foam on left and right of orange color paper foam.

Step 5: Try to hold your kids hand to draw the "scar" on the face by using marker pen. Now, you are almost done.....

Step 6: Put on the rubber band on each ear. Now you can let your kids to wear it and have a Halloween party together.

Deepavali Greeting Card

Description:
Deepavali is just around the corner! Let's grab your scissors and glue to make a unique greeting card to your Indian Friend to send your best wishes!!

What you'll need:
Color paper (preferable in black), color pencil (classic style), sliver marker pen, glue,color sand, glister glue (sliver/gold color),sequence, pencil and eraser.

How to make it:

Use pencil to sketch out the lamp and light as shown at picture beside.( this is for inside of the card)

Same as previous step, but now need to sketch out the flower pattern. The flower pattern may change based on own preferable style.

Dark brown color pencil is needed for this step. The dark brown color need to color surround the top part of the lamp.
p/s: don't over pressure when doing the color pencil coloring.

Gold color pencil is used to fill full the top part of the lamp after the dark brown color was applied.
p/s: don't over pressure when doing the color pencil coloring.

Gold color pencil now is use to draw the line according to the lamp shape for the whole lamp.
p/s: this step need more pressure than the previous 2 step.

White color is used to draw some line at the middle to make the lamp look more "3D".

Then, color the white color on the light.
p/s: start from the middle part then slowly color to outside but need to leave a little bit space for orange and amber color.

Surround the light with orange and amber color. Remember to do blending among white, orange and amber color.

Sliver color marker pen is used to make some decoration for the lamp and also to write the greeting words. And now, the inside of the card is done! Time for us to move to the front side.

Apply glue follow the particular section that draw out early, then pour the different color sand on to the particular part. Color arrangement may change based on own preferable color/arrangement.
Leave it for at least 1 hours before move to next step.

Paste the sequence around the flower to make celebration feel.

Lastly, apply the sliver color glister glue follow the flower line. Leave it at least 24 hours/fully dry before sending it to your dearest friend ya~

Cutie Cloth Bag Deco

Description:
Have some left over plain cloth and do not know what to do with it? Don't worry, with a little twigs, just reuse it into a nice and cute bag deco.

What you'll need:
1. plain cloth - any size
2. needle and similar color thread
3. fine permanent marker (0.5mm)
4. color pencils
5. safety pin
6. scissor
7. pencil
8. cotton

How to make it:
1. Decide on the shape of your bag deco. In my case, I create a circle of 6cm in diameter. Draw on the cloth with pencil. Make sure you draw 2 of the same size.

2. Cut it out as on the picture on the right.

3. Use the needle and thread, stitch the 2 pieces of cloth togeher on the pencil lines. Leave about 2cm before you end your sewing of the circle. Remember to leave about sufficient thread to finish the sewing of the circle which is to be used in later step to seal off the remaining opening after everything is done.

4. With the help of a pencil, turn the cloth inside out.

5. Use the pencil, draw your picture onto the cloth, color the picture with color pencil.

6. Outline the picture with the fine permanent marker pen.

7. Stuff the cotton into the bag deco through the opening on the cloth.

8. Sew to close the opening using the remaining thread from step 3.

9. Sew a safety pin to the back of the cutie cloth bag deco.

You're done!!

Tips:
1. You can choose to sew on the safety pin on one of the cloth before you stitch the two cloths together in step 3.
2. If you wish to do a hanging bag deco, add the hanging string into step 3. Apply some glue to fix the position of the string before you sew.
3. This same idea can be used as keychain as well.
4. This method can be used to create felt bag deco as well.

Black Rabbit Lantern

Description

Let's celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival together with this Creative Black Rabbit lantern.

What you'll need:

1. Black color paper 185gm A4 x2
2 Red color paper 80gm A5x1
3. Scissor
4. Double sized tape
5. Pencil
6. Iron wire
7. Cutter
8. White glue
9. Red color Lantern paper
10. Silver pen
11.bamboo skewer

How to make it:
Step1: According to pictures, cut it out (Face, nose, body with hole, hand x2, ear x2, leg x2, tail)

Step 2: Use Glue the Red color Lantern paper at the hole of the black paper with white glue, then put double size tape to stick on the side of the body.

Step 3: With the help of a pencil, wrap the iron wire around it until as shown then fit it at the bottom of rabbit's body. Next, assemble the body with the rest.

Step 4: Now you can design your rabbit with the silver pen.

Step 5: Lastly hang the lantern with a string and bamboo skewer, and it is done! Well, you can make more of them to hang around during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Weaving Paper Ketupat Craft

Description
Many of us do not know how to make ketupat. It looks complicated at first,but once you get the hang of it, you will weave ketupat like a pro. Let's learn how to weave paper ketupat together.
What you'll need:
1. Color Paper Strips (Choose 2 color that you like)
2. Scissor
3. Ruler
4. Pencil

How to make it:
Step1: Weave the green color paper (paper A) on your right hand into the light green color paper (paper B) on your left. Keep holding on to the paper A as you do this.
Step 2: Take the narrow end of the paper B and weave it upwards. Once you get to the top, take a left turn and keep weaving to that corner. (i.e. weave along two sides of the ketupat)
Step 3: Turn the ketupat around. Repeat the previous step of going up and to the left. (i.e. weave along the other two sides of the ketupat) The narrow ends should now be at the same corner.
Step 4: Take one of the wide ends and weave towards the corner opposite the one with the narrow ends.
Step 5: Repeat with the other wide end.
Step 6: Neaten the ketupat. Start by folding a small corner of the wide end and tucking it like a hook into the corner. Carefully tug the paper B along its path.
Step 7: Do the same with the other wide end of the paper A- fold the end and hide it under a weave and tug it gently along its path. You will have to do this several times for both leaves.

The Spring Coaster/Wall Deco

Description:
Lets explore and create a series of coaster/wall deco by recycle the cloth! Now... let us start with the Spring! STAY TUNED as we have summer, autumn and winter coming soon~~~

What you'll need:
sewing machine, needle and color thread, different design/pattern of cloth (either new or old), felt sponge (16cm x 16cm), scissor
**this coaster/wall deco is just 15cm x 15cm, thus, the cloths size to prepare just need to be fit in this size.

How to make it :

1) Cut 2 pieces of pattern cloths (preferably light color) with 16cm x 16cm in size.

2) Join the 2 pieces of pattern cloths together with the felt sponge sandwiched in between of the 2 pieces pattern cloths by using the sewing machine.

3) Cut and join another pattern cloth (preferably dark color) with needle and string.

4) Now, cut 2 circles (the sizes need to estimate from the picture beside) and sew it on the position shown in the picture. This is to be used as the shoes for the little girl.

5) Continue to cut one piece of white/beige cloth to be used as hand. Sew on the hand with needle and thread at the estimated postiion of the little girl's hand.

6) Sew the lace for the dress. Before stitch on, need to measure and estimate with the size of the dress.

7) Now is the turn to sew for the dress. You may add some cotton underneath the dress so that the dress will look more "3D". Be careful not to fill with too much cotton if you are going to use it as coaster.

8) After that, stitch the another hand follow by the sleeve.

9) Now, it's the time for the hat! And the little girl is done! The color of the cloth must be darker or more colorful than the background color to make the whole craft work more attractive.

10) Sew some flower on the ground and also on the girl's hand with color thread.

11) The picture beside shown when every sewing/stitching are done.

12) Lastly, just add the border~

Clay Craft: Banana Fridge Magnet

Age: 5 and up (with help from adults as necessary)

Description:
Are you thinking of how to add some colours to the kitchen yet lack of ideas? How about a hand-made banana on the fridge?

What you'll need:
1. Yellow colour iClay ( 7 parts)
2. Red colour iClay (1/4 part)
3. Black colour iClay (1/8 part)
4. 1 sharp end toothpick
5. 1 magnet (1cm in diameter)
6. Strong adhesive/glue
** One part of the clay is about the size of a small marble with 1cm in diameter.

How to make it:
1. First of all, prepare some brown clay. Mix 2 parts of yellow clay with a quarter part of red clay, with a one-eighth part of black clay. Knead the clay until the colour is even and it will turn into brown clay. If it is the brown colour you like, it's ready to be used; if not, just fine tune the colour needed by adding the colour little-by-little.

2. Get one part of the yellow clay, knead and mould it into a round shape, then slowly mould it into water drop shape.

3. Repeat the process for the other 4 parts of the yellow clay.

4. Take a small pinch of the clay out of the brown clay from Step 1. Put aside to be used as the tip at the end of each banana. Knead and mould the rest of the brown clay into a ball shape, then into a long cylinder shape like a small sausage.

5. Use the toothpick, make some lines along the length of the brown clay. Make some tiny holes at the two end of the clay.

6. From the small pinch of brown clay, divide it into 5 small parts, make each into a tiny ball shape as round as you can.

7. Attached one small brown ball clay to one water drop of yellow clay, use the toothpick, push the brown clay on the middle into the yellow clay. Slowly turn and pull out the toothpick and the brown clay will stay with the yellow clay.

8. Repeat Step 7 for the rest of the water drop yellow clay and the tiny brown clay.

9. Now, join all the 5 yellow bananas together, be careful to do this slowly as it sticks immediately and cannot be detached if mistakenly done. Then carefully put the brown clay from Step 4 on top as the main tip of the banana. Do all these gently as the shape of the clay can easily be spoilt if force is applied unnecessary. Leave the clay aside for it to be air dried.

10. Finally, when the clay is dry enough to be handled easily, glue the magnet to the back of the banana using strong adhesive, and it is DONE!

Tips:
1. Clean your hands before you start handling the clay as the clay will turn dirty easily. It is also advisable to make sure your hands are clean after the brown clay is prepared before you start handling the yellow clay.

2. You can also use arcylic plastic blocks or CD plastic covers to mould the clay instead of bare hands that usually get dirty easily.

3. One additional advantage of using the arcylic plastic blocks or CD plastic covers is to prevent extra fine lines to be formed accidentally in the shape of the clay.

4. If the clay is too wet to handle, leave it a while in the air and only work on it when the stickiness is appropriate.

5. The water drop clay on Step 2 & Step 3 need not be perfectly sized and shaped. Real bananas come in different sizes and shapes anyway, just make sure these are not too extremely odd in size and shape will do.

Penang Heritage City Photo Frame

What you'll need:

1. Your favourite Penang photo

2. Some card board from old boxes

3. UHU Glue

4. Scissors
5. Acrylic Paint

6. White and black sand

7. plastic

Step 1: Use white sand and white acrylic paint of on the card board

Step 2: Put some black sand on it, make like a old building wall

Step 3 : Use cut it as shown

Step 4: Use card board to make window paint with acrylic paint,

Step 5: Use Oil pastel to make the effect.

Step 6 : Use Glue to as shown

Step 7 : Arrrange Your favourite Penang photo, card board and plastic as shown.

Step 8 : Glue as the back.

Step 9 : Make a stand. Done.

Foam Craft: #1 Handphone Decor

Why not do it yourself?
Just need a few materials and within few minutes, your personal handphone decor is borned!

What you'll need:
1. Color Foams (can buy from Popular or any Stationary Shop)
2. Handphone Decor string (can buy from any accessories Shop)
3. Silver or Gold Marker (can buy from Popular or any Stationary Shop)
4. White Glue
5. Scissor
6. Hole puncher
7. Pencil

How to make it:
1. Draw out number "1" on a piece of Color Foam according to the size that you prefer
2. Draw decor shape (e.g. the sample is a rabbit head) on another Color Foam according to the size that you prefer
P.S. For step # 1 & 2, you may print out the mould from computer if you wish to and trace it on the Color Foam
3. Cut both of them out
4. Use the Silver or Gold Marker, add lines/patterns on the "1" Color Foam
5. Glue the decor shape on top of the "1" Color Foam
6. Punch a hole on top of the "1" Color Foam
7. Attached the Handphone Decor string through the hole and DONE!!
